Let’s put it this way - we all hate to use linament. The list of things that you need to apply it makes it a royal pain in the butt. Washrack, clean bucket, sponge dedicated to linament only, water. OR - you grab the Absorbine Veterinary Linament in the spray bottle. No washrack, buckets, sponges, water needed. You life as a Groom just became more efficient and easy. The linament gel is great for the “no washrack” way of life, also.
I think one of the first tricks I learned as a Groom was to use a bit on linament under ice boots after a work out. In doing so, you still had to go to the washrack, and then back to the cross ties for the ice. Now, just spritz, ice, wait, and you are good to go.
The second thing I learned about linament is that if you suspect your horse had a more strenuous workout than normal, you can use linament as a brace to alleviate and prevent sore muscles. I have the *perfect* example of this. I have an older (19) horse who is a Grand Prix Dressage horse. Miguel has had an easy 6 months, lots of trail and minimal work as I recovered from an injury. As we are slowly getting back into work, we had one of those days were I really thought he was switched with some plucky four year old. Crisp air and a bit of drizzle added to the environment. I had to channel his energy - so we schooled a lot of the GP movements, and I thought I had emptied the gas tank. I spritzed him up with Absorbine Veterinary Linament and crossed my fingers he was not going to be sore. The next day he was even more nutty - I think I even called him a “lunatic”, as he felt better than the day before. Lesson learned - This linament works...
The third thing I learned about linaments in general is that some of them will test at shows. Please read the following USEF statement regarding Absorbine Veterinary Linament. http://www.absorbine.com/usef.html. This will save you a lot of time when it comes to making sure your Grooming box is stocked safely for showing season.
As a busy Groom - everything we can do to support our athletes and keep them healthy is a must. If we can do it more efficiently, well, that’s icing. I gotta hand it to the folks at Absorbine for making our work easier!
