Supplies needed for tack cleaning and conditioning, the OLD way:
-Small towels or rags
-Sometimes a toothbrush or scrubby thing
-Fresh sponge for conditioner
Supplies need for tack cleaning and conditioning, the NEW way:
Lexol Quick Wipes Leather Cleaner
Lexol Quick Wipes Leather Conditioner
Here’s how it works - the Lexol Quick Wipes remind me of tissues, pop one out of the container, and you are good to go. The Quick Wipes are about the size of a tissue, and one Quick Wipe is enough to clean one bridle or one saddle. They are easy to store, and you don’t need any more supplies to get your tack sparkling and conditioned. (Think of all of the time you will save at shows, as well as all of the stuff you don’t need to pack and unpack and keep track of…)
I used the Lexol Quick Wipes Leather Cleaner first, then I come back and wipe my tack down with the Quick Wipes Leather Conditioner. The wipes are more cloth like than a tissue, so they can really get into the nooks and crannies. You can wrap then around a finger to get into the buckles, and they fit and stay in your hand to zip down reins. The thin material also allows you to get up against rein stoppers, which are notorious for collecting extra gloopy soapy goo if you are using a sponge. The rein below shows the icky side of a rein stop and the spiffy clean side. So easy!
Lexol is famous for their pH balanced leather cleaners and conditioners. (Yes, just like your own shampoo and conditioner) The same formulations are in the Lexol Quick Wipes, so you can be sure that you are preserving the proteins and fibers that make up your leather tack.
So easy!!! Cut your tack cleaning time and make a dreaded task easy. Also remember that the secret to keeping your saddle, bridle, and other leather tack in perfect working order for a long time is to take care of it daily. I worked for a big time trainer whose motto was “Clean tack every day, whether it needs it or not”. And so we did! This made all of the leather saddles and bridles supple and safe. It also negated the necessity to take apart the bridles for a deep cleaning (thank goodness!)
