The Posture Prep Cross Fiber Groomer: That's a very fancy way to say "green curry comb in funny shape". But this really isn't a curry comb, even though it does the job of a curry comb, and then some. Developed by Dr. Patricia Bona, a Doctor of Chiropractic and certified by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, it's designed to loosen the skin, fascia, and muscles. This ultimately helps your horse's posture and helps the muscles warm up. It's also a system that can tell you where your horse hurts....
So - some basics here. The Groomer is designed to be used in short strokes across the muscle fibers. Since the fibers run (typically) with the grain of hair, just make your strokes perpendicular. Use a light touch at first, and go deeper if your horse lets you or wants you to. For me, my horses were quite sensitive at first, now they lean in when I groom certain areas.
I have linked to a video for you to watch that explains this in more detail. Do watch it, it's well worth learning some of the science behind this great tool.
So - what did I learn?
-My horses love this tool now. It's a true massage, and really does warm up the muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
-Use care. Read and listen to your horses if they tell you something hurts.
-Think turning your horse's skin into sweatpants, and not keeping your horse's skin like tight jeans.
-You will never lose this neon green tool in your grooming kit. It's so fun and bright you may even be able to see it from outer space.
-Be persistent with this. It's a marathon, not a sprint. You will see results over time.
-You cat may go bonkers for it, too. (Dogs and Kitties have their own version!! Just for them!)
-My warm up time under saddle is reduced. The horses feel more supple.
-The design of this tool is *perfect* for running along the midline of the belly to do wither lifts and back lifts. This has the added bonus of keeping dust and hairs out of your fingernails.
-The Posture Prep Cross Fiber Groomer is just like a curry comb in terms of hair loosening, bringing the dirt to the surface, and getting ready for the dandy brush. But really like a curry comb on steroids.
